Drowning

Didn’t you know I’d bleed when you cut me so deep

Didn’t you know my heart would stop when I knew you

Wouldn’t keep those love-making promises made in the night

When all was right between us and you forced me to bend

Why am I so blind that I cannot see

What your strength has done to me

Why I give so much

Still not enough for you

You take it all without a thought and make it your truth

Now I come with an empty heart in my hands

Looking to be what you want

I’m drowning in quicksand

quicksand

Didn’t you know I’d cry when you said you couldn’t be around

At the time when I needed you most

With the river of want raging inside me

Wanting your body on mine

Why am I so blind that I cannot see

What your love has done to me

Why I give so much

Still not enough for you

You take it all without a thought and make it your truth

Now I come with an empty heart in my hands

Looking to be what you want

I’m drowning in quicksand

quicksand

Didn’t you know I’d scream through the pain of your regret

Of ever having known me and taken me at my best

Didn’t you know I’d crumble  as I watched you walk away

Into other arms as I listen to you say

You’ve got nothing more to give

Your best is yet to come

I take what I can get from you

You won’t give me more

I’ve got to let go

I know that but

I am so blind

I cannot see

What my need has done to me

Why I gave so much

Still not enough for you

You took it all without a thought and made it your truth

Now I’m left with an empty heart in my hands

Never to be what you want and drowning in quicksand
