Mapping The Story

For some unknown reason, I had a serious case of writer’s block last week. I had finished my next short story and was none too happy about the ending. Something just didn’t seem right.

Even after using my fave program, Contour, I still didn’t get it.

I didn’t know what to do to make it better, so out of sheer desperation, I plugged the story into Apple’s iMovie program.

Guess what?  It worked.  It literally walked me through my story with a feature that I had not used before in writing ebooks.  Many of you have probably used it but I didn’t know anything about it.  It’s a Storyboard.

Right there in front of me was a graphical representation of what was happening in the story, and from a template no less.

Well, now I have not only the short story all wrapped up, but the beginning of a short feature film.  Thirty pages, thirty minutes on a screen. The trailer for “The Priest” is here.

It’s not that easy of course, but when you’re as desperate as I was, you’ll try anything. As a friend keeps telling me, just get it written.

I did and iMovie helped me do just that.
